WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT

All the NICHE International trustees and instructors are volunteers. We have no paid staff, rent or other overheads. All the money we raise is spent on training courses.

As instructors, we give our time freely, but travel to poorly resourced areas of the world is costly and we do not wish to be a financial burden to our hosts.  

A group of 5-7 instructors can train as many as 48 candidates in Neonatal Care over the course of a week, as well as selecting and training up to 8 local health professionals to become course instructors.

As well as funding international instructors, we contribute towards the expenses of local instructors and towards the travel expenses of the course candidates, many of whom make difficult journeys from remote areas to undertake training.  

We provide training materials, books, photocopied worksheets, and resuscitation equipment, which we leave with the local team for clinical use or on-going training.

How Your Money Will Help

 
£5 will buy a stethoscope, vital for measuring a baby’s heart rate at birth.  Each learner gets one of these to keep at the end of the course and use in their everyday practice.
£13 will provide a bag valve mask with which to train healthcare workers how to resuscitate a newborn baby
£15 covers the cost of one training manual full of information on the care of the newborn infant which the candidate keeps for clinical use and reference after the course
£150 is the cost of Basic Life Support training manikins which we use to train health workers to resuscitate newborns.  These manikins continue to be used for training purposes in poorly resourced areas by the local health professionals who have become instructors.  4 of these are needed for each training pack which NICHE leaves in country
£160 buys a pulse oximeter, a non-invasive tool to measure blood oxygen levels and heart rate.  Vital for monitoring a sick baby with pneumonia.  Each training pack requires one
£1000 pays for an instructor to travel to Cameroon or Liberia and teach the NCC to a group of up to 24 people and a GIC for up to 12
